On May 20th the Historical Society hosted a birthday party for local artist Henry Church, Jr.. He turned a ripe 185 years old! This was the first indoor/outdoor event that we have had in over a year and it felt so good to have people in the museum again. This party was also the unveiling of “Big Henry” the larger than life self portrait that was donated to the museum last year by Jane Babinsky, a descendant of Henry Church Jr., and former Director of the museum.

The festivities began with a private Zoom meeting with Church family descendants, then a VIP reception followed by a public open house. Aside from the main attraction “Big Henry” guests were delighted by the artwork created by Gurney Elementary School students and a Henry Church Jr. piece that is on loan until Memorial Day from a local resident! Please stop by before June 1st to see all of these fun pieces in person.
