The Chagrin Falls Historical Society & Museum is proud to present our first in person event in months! Henry Church Jr.’s 185th Birthday Party!

Join us on Thursday, May 20, 2021 anytime between 4-6:30pm for cupcakes and lemonade on our front porch! During the celebration, visitors will be able to enter the museum and view for the very first time, a self portrait of Henry Church Jr. which was donated to us last year by his descendant, Jane Babinsky in memory of Miriam Rose Church Stem. The self-portrait was painted around the 1880s and it cannot be missed! The piece has earned the nickname “Big Henry” by museum staff. RSVP 440-247-4695 Masks and social distancing will be required.

Henry Church, Jr. was born in Chagrin Falls on May 20, 1836. He was a blacksmith by trade and a self-taught artist, working in a variety of media including cast iron, wrought iron, metal, stone sculpture, oil, charcoal, pencil and water colors. His works can be seen in the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum in Williamsburg, VA, the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Chagrin Falls Historical Society & Museum.
